I understand your situation, I get it all the time. I will write down some of my favorite books that aren't the normal books you hear about. So, here you go!

Candymakers

By: Wendy Mass (I personally am a big fan of Wendy Mass and suggest anything written by her)

Details: 4 kids enter in a candy making competition, but they soon realize that things are not what they seem.

13 Treasures

By: Michelle Harrison

Details: A girl named Tanya has the ability to see fairies, but the fairies are evil and when Tanya's mother notices her unusual behavior, she sends her to her grandma's secluded house. She finds out that a girl disappeared 50 years ago into the woods surrounding the house and as she learns more about the mystery, she finds herself dangerously close to disappearing into the fairy realm forever.

Deep Blue

By: Jennifer Donnelly

Details: Serafina is the princess of Miromara, a mermaid realm, and when her mother is shot by an assassins arrow, she must find the assassin's master and prevent war between the mer nations. (This book has a sequel called Rogue Wave if you like the first book)

Atlantia

By: Ally Condie

Details: Rio and her sister live in the under water world of Atlantia. Rio wants to live in the world Above, but her sister takes the chance away from her, leaving Rio by herself in Atlantia. Hiding the horrible truth that she is a siren, Rio tries to find out how her mother really died and learns about the corrupted system that governs the Divide between land and sea.

Anything by Raina Telemonger (I think that;s how you spell it)- All of her books are amazing, and she's a great illustrator!
Bone by Jeff Kinney- Three creatures called Bones are driven out of Boneville and became lost in the desert. Soon, they came across the Valley. Unfortunately, one of them, Fone Bone, awakened the Great Red Dragon. Now, with the help of the mysterious Hooded One and his/her master the Lord of the Locusts, the Rat Creatures are ready to take over the Valley once again.

Castle Waiting- Ever wondered what happened to the castle after Sleeping Beauty left? Well, it's still enhabited! Now Lady Jain Solander seeks shelter there, hiding from unknown forces and looing for santuary for her and her baby.

Other books-

Emily Windsnap- Emily always thought she was a normal girl, until one day she slipped into the sea and grew a tail! Now she has to rescue her father from prison, because marrying humans is illegal.

Inkheart- What happens if you can literally read things out of books? Meggie and her father, Mo, are caught smack-dab in the middle of danger when Mo accidentally reads the dangerous villan Capricorn out of a book.

Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland

Un Lun Dun by China Mieville(This one's wierd)
