Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Out of my Mind
Has anyone read...

Has anyone read Out of my Mind by Sharon M. Draper. It is about a girl named Melody who has a celeberal palsy and so she can't walk or talk, but she is a genius. She has a photograpic memory. This book is about her fifth grade year. She goes to a normal school, but she is in a class with a bunch of 'devomentaly disabled' kids. Then the school introduces 'inclusion classes' where the kids in Melody's class get to go to classes with 'normal' kids.

I really love this book, and I reccomend it. It is kind of sad, but it is well-written and very heart-felt.

*GASP* I LOVE THAT BOOK!!  I read it in a Literature Circle with a few other girls in my class and they all seemed to really like it! It's such a good book and should TOTALLY win a Newberry Award!!I especially love how it's told from Melody's point of view.

Yeah! It is a really great book.

SPOILER ALERT!

It infuriated me how Melody's teacher thought she was cheating when she was just a genius with a photographic memory! When books make me feel stuff like that, you know they must be good.

And how the girl who said she was her friend (I can't remember the name right now) was just doing it to be nice? Arrrgh!

END SPOILER!

I really think anyone and everyone could and should read and enjoy this book.

I loved Out Of My Mind. It was so beautiful and emotional. I also love the cover. Some parts were very frustrating, like when she tries to save her fish but her mom thinks she killed it. But that shows that the writing is wonderful, the fact that I actually felt angry.
