Hi everyone (:
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Hi everyone (:
So , I don't usually post on here , but I just had to post about this book .
As many of you may know already , John Green is an amazing author . He captivates , and draws you into the world of the book . This particular book , Looking for Alaska , was especially good .
Warning: The following contains spoilers.
So the main character, named Miles ("Pudge") goes off to boarding school in Alabama . He ends up befriending some people , and one of those people is Alaska Young . By the middle of the book , he's fallen in love with her , but she's devoted to her (long distance) boyfriend . Anyway , they end up kissing , and the same night Alaska is in a horrible accident , and dies . And then the rest of the book is spent with these three (well mostly two) boys coping with her death , and trying to figure out if it was truly a drunk driving accident (she was driving under the influence) or if it was a suicide .
The two major things about the book that I personally love is that the tragedy happens in the middle , and that it makes you think in a deep level . One question that he asks is "how do we get out of this labyrinth of suffering?" (life). To me , this made me think . And I love books that are challenging .
Since the tragedy happens in the middle, and the rest of the book is their grieving process, I felt like I was with them , like I was grieiving right along as they were . So, for anyone else who read this book, did you feel the same? Did you like the tragedy in the middle, or should it have been at the end?
Oh and btw, I don't recommend this book for anyone under 14 or 15 . It wasn't bad , but some things in it I understand that some parents would disapprove of . But , for the sake of the very young people on the CB , I won't get into all of that .

I have not read this book yet- actually, I've just started to read some of John Green's books. I definitely am enjoying them and can't wait to read this one next!

I just finished Paper Towns and Fault in our Stars. Both were amazing! I loved how he really didn't give you that happy ending you were looking for- wow, thats sounds morbid:) There's one quote in Paper Towns that I was like, wow, totally phrased perfectly. Its when Margo and Q are looking out over the city after all their misdoings (loved that part- wow, like how did that not get caught??) and she starts talking about how its a paper town and says "All those people living in their paper house, burning the future to stay warm".
FIOS made me cry- everything was so well played out. I stayed up late reading it and when I finished I thought "I wish this book would go on, but I'm not sure if I could take is." That truly is a sign of a great book.

Did I hear...John Green? I thought you'd never ask!
I've read all of his books. I put them in order from least favorite to favorite.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson
An Abundance of Katherines
The Fault in Our Stars
Looking for Alaska
...and finally, Paper Towns, my absolute favorite.
I didn't particularly like Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Probably because I prefer John Green's writing by itself, instead of another author collaborating with him.
An Abundance of Katherines was wonderful. The only issue was that the chapters were kind of purposely out of order and there would be a random flashback in between scenes. I loved reading it, but it was difficult to find a certain part again.
The Fault in Our Stars was brilliant. 'Nuff said.
Looking for Alaska was amazing. I agree, Vida, I truly felt like I was one of the characters. That's how you know whoever wrote it is a talented writer - they make you connect.
Paper Towns was simply perfection. I would totally describe exactly how much I adored it, but it would probably be a rather hefty job for the Admins to read and publish. So I'll leave it at that. It was perfection.

Wait, there's going to be a movie?

Yep! It's going to be sort of weird though. It's like Isaac went through a portal into the second dimension and is now Q.
