Samurai Detective Series

A little known series about a tea merchant's son (merchants were a very low class in Japan; they were considered lazy and dumb) named Seikei wants to be a samurai (a very high level, honorable warrior) but obviously has no chance, being a merchant's son. Then he helps a Samurai named Judge Ooka solve a mystery and is adopted as the Judge's son.

It's like Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, and Barnaby Grimes all rolled into one.
