Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Jane Austen Books and Movie Adaptions
I just finished...

I just finished Pride and Prejudice and I loved it. I cannot explain why but I thought it was fantastic. I have also read Emma, which I liked but nowhere as much as Pride and Prejudice. I also watched the movie adaption with Keira Knightly. It was fine but the constant giggling got a little annoying. :) What is your favorite Jane Austen book? Have you seen any really good movie adaptions? (What about the BBC productions? I have heard that those are really fantastic.)

I love the movies, but to my great dismay, the books put me to sleep. My all-time favorite is Sense and Sensibility.

So I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jane Austen, and P&P is by far her best book. I would also recommend Sense & Sensibility, and I'm reading Northanger Abbey, which is also amazing. Definitely try the BBC, though it is a little old fashioned and slow, you got through Emma, so you should be fine. Good Luck and go Jane!

My three faves are Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Senseibility and Emma. My favorite adaption would probably be the 1990s S&S with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. I preferred the BBC P&P (sorry about the blasphemous abbrevs, but I'm in a hurry) to the one with Kiera Knightley, though I also really liked the 1940s adaption with Laurence Olivier. I always prefer old adaptions to newer ones, as a rule.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! I ADORE JANE AUSTEN! P&P IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS EVER! What version did you watch? The one with Keira Knightly, or one of six hour ones? One of the blogs I follow is called Modern Mrs. Darcy, I love her! I could quote it all day! "Have you no compassion for my poor nerves?"

"No, you mistake me my dear, I have the highest compassion for them, they have been my constant these past eighteen years."

And

"Misses Darcy *kiss*, Misses Darcy *kiss*, Misses Darcy *kiss*, Misses Darcy *kissssssssss*."

Yeah, DO NOT get me started. Just a warning. Heh.

I LOVE Jane Austen! I have only read Pride and Prejudice, but I have seen almost every adaptation of almost all the books. My favorite P&P adaptation is the 2005 Keira Knightley version, which is also one of my all time favorite movies. I have to say that unlike most, I am not a fan on the Colin Firth miniseries. I adore the Emma BBC miniseries, as well as the Sense and Sensilbilty one. I also really liked Mansfield Park with Billie Piper, but I haven't seen the other adaptation, so I can't really judge between them. I've seen a lot of the other ones such as Persuasion but it's been a while so I don't remember them as well.
