This is by E. Nesbit. Jerry, Cathy, and Jimmy are brothers and sister. During the summer, they stay at Cathy's private boarding school because their parents will be away. There, they meet Mabel, the housekeeper at an ancient castle's niece. While they are playing, she puts on a certain ring by accident, and becomes invisible. The Children have many adventures with the ring, including seeing statues come alive, catching thieves, and kidnapping the nanny.
NOTE: this book was written a loooong time ago. If you are not into this sort of book, don't attempt reading it.

I think I may have read that.
E. Nesbit is okay, but like you said, REEEEALLY old. I particularly liked Half Magic.

I liked this book a lot! It is more old-fashioned, but it's still really good story. I actually enjoy old writing a lot... what about the rest of you?
