Chatterbox: Blab About Books
I thought I'd make a page about it, it having come up again on the CB elsewhere.
So, for the uninititated, it follows the fate of an "Assistant Pig Keeper" who takes care of an oracular pig. When she goes missing, it sets of a crazy train of events including meeting a spunky Princess (who turns out not so spunky by the end of the series, but don't let that deter you) and a strange Gollum-like creature named Gurgi who is so depressing he's funny, and a villain with horns, because every villain must have them. All of the characters are really interesting and if there are occasional similarities to LOTR, it is only because of the shared Celtic origin.
My favorite books in the series, in order, are:
The Black Cauldron (because of Elidyr's sacrifice) (Book 2)
The Book of Three (because it (Book 1)
The High King (because King Pryderi's betrayal was pretty cool) (Book 5)
The Castle of Llyr (I would like this more if it were longer) (Book 3)
Taran Wanderer (Book 4)
Favorite quote: "I have never known a man's courage to be judged by the length of his hair. Or, for the matter of that, whether he has any hair at all." (The Book of Three)

I started reading those, but I couldn't fine The Castle of Llyr at my library, so I kind of wandered away from the story. I gotta read them again, I loved them!

I sat down and read all five in two days. I found them kind of boring. The werre pretty good though.

Oops, I wrote kind of boring. I don't mean that. They are pretty good books, but I don't like another book by Lloyd Alexander.

Which one? I've read Westmark, Time Cat and that Carlo Chuchio one, and I thought they were all pretty good, although every female character of his seem exactly alike.

The Philadelphia Adventure.

Yeah, I gave up on the Vesper Holly series half-way through the Illyrian Adventure; it seemed like there was absolutely no depth and I could find a better adventure story elsewhere.
