Chatterbox: Blab About Books
John Green
Okay! So, I...
Okay! So, I don't know about you all, but I'm a SUPER big fan of John Green. Like, it's not even funny. I read all of his books, e-mailed him multiple times, explored all of his social media (he's a Youtuber as well), and I even began to write a few sequels to his books. He's AMAZING.
Here's his books in order from least favorite to favorite (my opinion):
4. An Abundance of Katherines
3. Looking for Alaska
2. The Fault in Our Stars
1. Paper Towns, my FAVORITE.
So, does anyone else LOVE him?

I LOVE John Green. He is fantastic. Sometimes if I'm feeling down I just read one of his books. I mean, they are usually sort of sad but he makes sure to add enough humor that you don't feel depressed while reading them. His storylines are all super-creative and his characters personalities are extremely vivid. I really hope that one day I'll be able to create characters and make them as memerable as his.
It's really hard for me to decide which one of his books is my favorite. However, I didn't like Will Grayson, Will Grayson and An Abundance of Katherines as much as his other books.

Did you know, one of the scenes in the movie for The Fault in Our Stars was filmed at my grandma's church? It's true.

When they first meet, I think?

Oh my gosh, that is AWESOME.

Isn't he the author who wrote The Fault in Our Stars?
(August 9, 2014 - 9:35 am)
Yep.

Ok, I thought so. I haven't read the Fault in Our Stars yet. Is it good?

It's amazing.

It's really bittersweet, but that's life. That's the thing about this book -- it seems so real. All the people aren't perfect (they've got CANCER for pete's sake!), and they're not extraordinary people doing extraordinary things all the time. They seem like real kids experiencing real pain, but also real love. Don't be put off by all the romance that surrounds Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters in the movies -- the romance is more cute and heartfelt than overbearing (this is coming from someone who hates romance in books. give me action or scifi any day). John Green has exceptional talent for writing books with characters that make you feel.
You will most likely love this book.
Read it. :)

Nora, I must agree with your ranking of John Green's books (the top half at least; I have yet to read Looking For Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines) I absolutely adore Paper Towns!! Like someone else said (sorry I can't remember your name), his books are somewhat sad, but his humor and style of writing lift them right out of Depressingville into Funny/Bittersweettown.
Since you said you explored his social media, I assume you've watched his vlogbrothers channel? DTBA! -insert nerdfighter gangsign- I need to watch more of his and Hank's videos, but the ones I've seen are very down-to-earth, not to mention hilarious. I love both of their outlooks on the world and life.
To answer your question, yes, there is someone else out here who loVes (a salute to mArgO roTh spIeglEmaN, ranDom cApitaliZer oF lettErs) him. (Though I can't say I'm obsessed enough to use all capitals.)

I can't say that I LOVE John Green, but I did read An Abundance of Katherines. It was okay, but not exactly fabulous. I will read the others as I find them at the library.

I just read The Fault in out Stars. I thought it was wonderful and very powerful. My only complaint is that it has some inappropriate stuff for my age.
