Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Pagan Chronicles by Catherine Jinks
These books are...

These books are amazing.

There are, apparently, five of them, but I've only read the first four. Anyone who liked Avi's CRISPEN triology and wants a similar (but very different at the same time) read will enjoy these books. Although the second and third ones do seem like a bit of a drag, the first and the fourth are amazing! Author Catherine Jinks tells the story of Pagan Kidrouk, who may or may not have been a real person. The characters are lively and vivid, and the medieval-ish era is wonderfully brought to life. The style it's written in is unique and brilliant! The whole first chapter I was wonderfully confused of whether it was a first or third person narrative.

The first book is PAGAN'S CRUSADE, where sarcastic Pagan Kidrouk signs up to be a squire in a desperate move to make money he owes but doesn't have. Enter Lord Roland, who Pagan ends up as his squire. This book flies by--I swear I was on the first chapter and then it was over. I believe (although I've only read five or so of her many works) that this is one of Jink's best novels.

If you liked Jink's other books, you'll probably also like this one, though it's very different from The Genius Triology and SAVING THABLEHAVEN (the works of hers I have read). Although the writing style is different, the quality is not, and you will not be dissapointed.

Has anyone else read these books? I believe I have expressed how much I like them. Or at least the first. Let's not talk about the third right now.
