Has anyone seen...

Has anyone seen the new book covers for Percy Jackson and Harry Potter?

The Harry Potter ones are kind of cheap and electronic looking; aside from the fact that the collected spines gives you a picture of Hogwarts, it's pretty bad. I love the old covers with all the different colours.

The Percy Jacksons definitely look more slick as well, more computerized than the original John Rocco ones, but they're kind of pretty. I like the hazy look of the originals, though, too.

What do you think of them?

I haven't seen the Percy Jackson ones, but I think the Harry Potter ones are beautiful!!! They're so calm and serene. I like how they show key scenes from the book. I don't mind the digital look. I actually prefer it. I just like digital anything!

I'm about 50/50 right now, some of them I like, but they just don't seem like Harry Potter!  One of the things I don't like is that especially post-Goblet, the old books have a specific color associated with them, so the new Half-Blood Prince cover just makes me think it's the Phoenix cover.  In general, the new ones remind me of Dianna Wynne Jones covers.  Also, the third one seems too spoilery.

So yeah, in general I still like the old ones.

Percy Jackson wise, no, No and NO.  Then again, the only one I still have is the first one, which has the movie cover.  So sue me, Scholastic book fairs are awful.  It is kind of cool how the new ones all run together into a huge long tableau of Percy Jackson clones.

Spamster in his spamster cage says... I think... ayon.  A yawn, yeah, some of those covers.

I kinda like the new HP ones, cause they're vibrant and captivating, but I'm a stickler for old and original things. But I don't really like the new PJ ones. I mean, I thought the old covers were cool! I think it's kinda interesting to get an idea what the Argo II looks like and all, but aside from that, not really.

I'm looking them up via Internet right now.

The Harry Potter ones: Oh, I saw these in the book store. At least, I looked at the first three. I'm not sure that I like them. On one hand, the old covers look more mysterious and secretive. These are a bit spoiler-y, and bright. But they do look kinda cool, and have some good scenes. You can't really tell who that is in cover #3, but it is a bit heavy on spoilers. And the picture of Hogwarts when you line them all up is really cool!

The Percy Jackson covers:  No, just no. I really, really, don't like these. I like the old covers for both Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, but these . . . they seem to . . . modern? I don't know.

I looked these up online, too.

I personally liked the old Harry ones a little more. I don't know why. They were slightly strange but I think they captured the books right. The new ones are well drawn (I especially like the fourth one) but I like the old covers more.

I actually like the new Percy Jackson covers, although I really dislike the new cover of "The Last Olympian". I think the new ones are more dramatic than the old ones. I guess that could be seen as a good or bad thing but I like how they are a little more modern.

Overall, I'm sort of 50/50 about the covers.

Yeah, the thing with Percy Jackson that's hard is that it's mixing something that thousands of years old with this really hip, modern story. So in a way, the modern thing with the new covers fits with the story, but the old covers capture more the Grecian spirit, somehow.
