Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Emily of New Moon
Montgomery's masterpi ...

Montgomery's masterpiece. Hands down.

I picked this book up as a hold-up while I waited for another book to come in from the library. Immediately, I got pulled in.

It's such an emotionally overpowering book. The ways you feel so connected to Emily. The way I felt like crying multiple times over all her troubles. It's a way of the author to allow you to feel the book rather than to read it, or see it in your mind. Every little thing that happens is so much felt in your heart.

I had forgotten what it's like to read a book as wonderful as that. It's a rare thing, but it just leaves you dazed. As if you're in a dream. One of those book thats world you find it hard to pull yourself completely out of, even if you wanted to. A book that's end stuns you hard.

No words no matter how magnificent could ever begin to describe the quality of the affect this book has on you. It's so immense, and wonderful. It's magical. It's inspiring.

If you haven't read it, do so now. If you have, please tell me what you thought of it!

I've read it many times over and absolutely LOVE it! Emily's character definitely draws me in to the story. She's so likeable.

Oh my gosh, I love these books to death. I think I like them even more than the Anne series.

Why? Because there is something very real about Emily. She is a thoroughly human character. And she has real challenges to overcome. Plus, I love how Emily wants to be a writer. The first book is mostly about her poetry, but she is truly imaginative and I love her Wind Woman and her Flash.

Also, the supporting cast is amazing. Ilse, who seems like a perfect friend; Perry, who is a loveable ragamuffin; Teddy, who despite being a stock kind of love intrest, has a fascinatingly warped home life; Aunts Elizabeth and Laura, who are really realistic; Cousin Jimmy, and his poetry; and Dean Priest, who gets even more interesting as the story goes on.

My favorite book in the trilogy is the second, Emily Climbs. For one thing, it takes place during her teen years, for another, it really catalogs her "climb" up the Alpine path, with her story writing and school experiences. The grammer in her diary writing cleans up as well, which was one silghtly annoying part about the first book.

I must say, it's nice finding someone else who has read these books--thank you, Blackberry!

I'm reading Emily Climb, now! It's very good, except sometimes I feel Emily is a little arrogant. Dean is a very wonderful character. My favorite.

My mum made me read a bunch of Montgomery stuff, and I love Emily. She is awesome!

I read this almost a year ago. It was one of the best books I had read, at the time. Emily was so great, as a character, and Uncle Jimmy was my favorite, the one I remember most clearly now. I can never imagine him as an old man, he's always a boy to my imagination. I loved the first book and am going to get it, and hopefully the other two books at the library next time I go!

@ True:

I agree, Uncle Jimmy never seemed old. He seemed quite ageless in my imagination.

Note to all: Do NOT see the Emily of New Moon TV series. All the characters seemed wrong and the plot was really changed. It really lacked the sparkle of the books. I saw three episodes and stopped; I didn't want it to ruin how I appreciated the books.

Yes, I love Dean Priest. Montgomery writes all her female characters really believably, but her male characters sometimes are a little two-dimentional. But Dean really breathes.

Emily's Quest (book 3) is my least favorite book, since her writing ambitions tend to take a back seat to her romance (and mooning over) Teddy, and is really angsty in spots, but it's still very readable.

I LOVE these books too!!! What's the matter w/ the TV series? I've been saving my money to buy them.

I saw the first episode of the TV series. NEVER AGAIN. I hated it.

Also,
about Teddy. I don't think that's the most ideal one of her friends to
marry. He's kind of... random. And we don't know him quite as well as we
know Dean, or Perrie. Teddy seems to me like the typical, handsome boy that all the girls will be after. He just doesn't have that much character.

@ Blackberry:

I agree. I wished Emily just married Dean to finally give him the happiness he was always after. Teddy didn't seem worth all the mooning over.
