Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Classics!
This is sort...

This is sort of a book club for every CBer (and I know that there are quite a few) to band together and have a sort of book club about all the classics we love and love to talk about! There are all too few people who actually read classics for fun, not just for school, or manditorially.

First of all, I must talk about L.M. Montgomery. I absolutely love Anne of Green Gables, and, even more, The Emily Trilogy. For all of my eleventh year, I've tried to be like Emily (sadly, that got me into a lot of trouble--asking someone to critique your work can go in books but apparently not real life). I love the characters, and how Emily is like Lucy Maud herself, and how SHE WANTS TO BE A WRITER! There aren't enough books with girls like that!

And also I cannot neglect my British heroes: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, William Shakespeare--okay, I don't know if the last one counts, but he's legendary. I love all of their books, and read them more than any other modern novel. There are literally more books on my shelf written before 1960 than after, and even though I still do read Riordan and Paolini and Rowling--I can't quite say I love them as much as the classics.

After all, if a classic is a classic, it must be pretty good, right?

I enjoy reading classic books. They are one of my favorite book genres (if they even are). One of my favorite classic books are Anne of Green Gables! It's a very good book and old style. And I totally agree with you- L.M Montgomery is an amazing author. I can't wait to read more classic books! -Nina

Re: Wurthering Heights and Jane Eyre

Personally, I didn't really like Wurthering Heights. I found myself very upset/annoyed with Heathcliff and Charlotte (was that her name?) and that boy who was always sick. It was a good book, but I think Jane Eyre is much better.

@ Nina: I recommend this to EVERYONE (I think this might be one of the books I'm most known for) is if you like Anne of Green Gables, you'll love What Katy Did. It's one of my all time favorite books, and its awesome! Such a sweet story.

@ Blonde Heroines Rule: Thanks for recommending that book! I'll look for it next time I choose a book. And have you ever read The Secret Garden or A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett? If you haven't, I definitely recommend them! They are also classics. They are very sweet stories, too.

What is What Katy Did about? I'd like to know but don't give too much information away. :)

What Katy Did is a great book! I really liked it. :)

The Secret Garden was pretty good, but I liked The Little Princess better.

@ True: What is What Katy Did about? Do you recommend it?

I'd like to know what the book is about but don't give too much information away! ;)

What other good classic books does anyone recommend?

@ Elizabeth:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I do know that Jane Eyre vs. Wuthering Heights is one of those literary wars that always seem to carry on!

@ Blonde Heroines Rule:

I'd love to read What Katy Did, but sadly my library doesn't have it. :(

Does your library belong to an inter-library loan system? Maybe it can get the book for you from another library.
