Spilling Ink
While searching in...
While searching in the library for a new book to read, I came across a book hight Spilling Ink by Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter. The book is guide to writing novels and books. It gives suggestions on how to make a character unique and how to find a good plot. As Spilling Ink is for young writers, the authors make it goofy and easy to follow. Ellen Potter and Anne Mazer also give the reader 'dares' that have to do with writing.
I'm only about a moiety through it, but I'd suggest this book to anyone who is interested in writing or in NaNo.

I read it and found it very helpful.
As a rule, I hate books like this, with people trying to tell you what to write and putting you in the "what's popular" bandbox, but this book didn't give me that impression.
The other book that was pretty cool was Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine. She gives a lot of writing prompts and focuses more on developing you as a writer, not telling you what to write.

Another good writing book is Juicy Writing by... erm... *googles* Brigid Lowry. It's really helpful, and has prompts, too. It also has quotes about writing.
Ellem Potter wrote the Olivia Kidney books. They were interesting.

There's a new writing book that just came out called This is Not a Writing Manual by Kerri Majors. I read some of it on Figment and it seems pretty good. It's geared towards people who want to write Young Adult, which is what I want to write eventually.

Yes, I have read both Spilling Ink and Writing Magic. They were both good, but I may have preferred Spilling Ink.
The other two you mentioned have gone straight onto my list. Thank you!
