Daemons
I've been reading...

I've been reading The Golden Compass and every character has a daemon which is sort of like their familiar and part of their own soul. Anyway, what do you think your daemon would be? Childrens' daemons can change shape, but adults' daemons can't. What would your daemon's shape be? I'd want mine to be a bird--preferably a bird of prey like a hawk or eagle.

Spam Box says "meet." It wants to meet a daemon?

Mine would probably be some kind of furry animal that is not as cute when it is biting you. Like a mongoose.

Maybe an owl.  Or a chicken-wolf.

A fox.

Cappie says "Ryaa." Yes, I know, Cappie, I have to work on the dreaded dread pirate Ryla! Okay, comprimise. Cappie, I'm going to call you Ryla, since I don't have time for the comic. I jsut started Outcasts of Space!

I'm not really sure. I just took a quiz that seemed really thorough, though, and after describing my personality in actually really accurate detail, it said, "Your daemon's form would represent your introverted nature, your expressiveness, and your strong sense of self. He or she would probably take an active interest in the world around you, and would have a lot to say.

Suggested forms: Panda, Arctic Fox, Domestic Cat, Wood Thrush, Spitz dog."

I think, out of those, the wood thrush probably fits the most. I don't know, though.

I did an actual test, and the results were that I had a "multi-faceted soul", and that my daemon would probably a Swan, Elephant, Koala, Panda, Chameleon or a Wolf.

I just took a real test now and here are the animals I came up with (it wasn't a bad test; it seemed to tell me just what I was):

Peregrine Falcon (bird of prey, like how I thought)

Snowy Owl (ditto)

Snow Leopard (like Lord Asriel's Stelmaria)

Siberian Tiger (I've always liked tigers)

Osprey (like Dr. Grumman's)

All of them seem cool except for the Snow Leopard. Very pretty, yes, but Stelmaria is seriously creepy.

I don't want a settled daemon. I just don't.

But if it had to settle, I would like a bat. I like bats. I also like sharks, but if my daemon was a shark, I would kill myself. Water is one of my least favorite things on earth.

I took a quiz, and it said I was a "quiet lonely" soul. Well, I detest people and like to be by myself. There's only a few people who I can actually stand. It also says I'm distant and don't talk about my feelings (darn right, I don't) don't like being in crowds (it feels like I'm drowning. Not pleasant.) and like being alone (well, like I said, there are a few people I can stand).

It suggests a lizard, a gecko, or a grass snake. Sure, reptiles are cool.

It seems like several of us took the same quiz--I read the pages for all the possibilities, and I'm seeing some here. I got "Open Solitary Soul," which basically means that I get stressed by loud noise and talking to people I don't know but am not afraid to express myself--which is completely true.

Note on aquatic daemons: I don't think they exist. I mean, how would you carry it with you? Even a goldfish would be a lot of trouble (What happens when the glass breaks? This is pretty much a guarantee when you have to carry it around with you wherever you go for your entire life); someone with a shark daemon would basically have to either stay in the same place forever or get a houseboat as soon as they're born. The world of His Dark Materials just makes more sense to me if I make the assumption that everyone is born with a terrestrial or flying daemon.

Aquatic daemons do exist.  In one of the books, a character mentions that one guy's daemon was a dolphin and he never went on land again because he wanted to be near his daemon.  So they do exist, but mostly in sailor type people.
