THE MARK OF...

THE MARK OF ATHENA IS COMING OUT ON WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!!! *starts doing Nomad dance*  Okay, got that screaming over with.  So, as said THE MARK OF ATHENA IS COMING OUT ON WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!!  I think that's all that needs to be said.  This can also be a Rick Riordan discussion thread.

@Gigi

When I first read the Son of Neptune, I though Hazel and Leo would end up together, but it doesn't look like that's happening.

I bought it last night.  The four chapters I've read are awesome.  I would have read more, but I had church and Sunday School.

Hazel and Leo would make sense.  Especially after the *spoiler* Sammy connection with Leo *spoiler ends*.  Now, I really do think Bianca DiAngelo.  That would be very awkward though.

Well, Nico said that Bianca had chosen to be reborn, so unless you mean her reborn form, that would be impossible. And the Leo/Hazel thing, at first I thought that maybe they would end up together, but (***SPOILER***) afte Hazel found out that he could have been her great grandson,(***SPOILER ENDS***) I highly doubt it. It's interesting that Leo has fire, and Frank's life depends on a piece of firewood.

I CAN'T WAIT A WHOLE YEAR FOR THE HOUSE OF HADES!!!! (***SPOILER***) How are they going to get Percy and Annabeth out of Tartarus?!(***SPOILER ENDS***)

I got it from the library last night and finished it this morning. (Yes, I am a fast reader. I read The Help in one day). I was not impressed. Why?

1) It's just like every other Rick Riordan book that exists. Bunch of kids have to go on a quest, find out they have an impossible deadline, defeat several monsters against impossible odds, make it where they were going at the last possible moment, and save the day. Except this one had the added bonus of a cliffhanger! Yay! *sarcasm*

2) They are too smart, or too lucky, or something. They always get away, matter what. You can count on it. Even if it looks impossible, Percy (or Annabeth, or Leo, or Frank....) comes up with some crazy mad plan, puts all the pieces together, and vióla! They escape! Amazing! Or it would be, if they hadn't done it before. Once every chapter. From the beginning. After a while, it just gets boring.

3) Schizophrenia. I'm probably blowing this way out of proportion, but I happen to feel very strongly about schizophrenia, and what it actually is versus what a lot of people think it is. SCHIZOPHRENIA IS NOT MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER, OKAY? For some unknown reason, a lot of society thinks that's what is it--including, apparently, Riordan. WHY?!?!?!

...So yeah. There's my rant. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but it's getting a little old. Especially all of the guy/girl stuff. Like every person on earth must have a boyfriend or else by age seventeen! Leo is a loser because he doesn't have one! We must constantly worry about what our boyfriend/girlfriend is thinking/saying/doing/eating/whatever! What if they don't like me anymore? What if they like someone else!? What if I never have a boyfriend/girlfriend!? WHAT WILL I DO!!??!!??

I hate it when books do that! I have friends who are eighteen/twenty-one/twenty-three, and *gaspshockhorror* they've never had a boyfriend.

Oh, no, really? Oh, poor them! They are missing out so badly!

Yeah, right. And please, don't think I'm bashing on people who date. I'm not. There's nothing wrong with it. I just really don't like it when people bash on people who don't.

The Mark of Athena was awesome!  I loved it!

@Jess

Annabeth and Percy *didn't* get away in the end, though.  And the end is what you leave with. Also, I personally think the best part of the books is how they can make you laugh in the middle of a battle scene.  There is also that part where they're about to die and there's no hope and you have no idea what the outcome will be.  For a second there, you are on the edge of your seat.  At least, I am.

I didn't really like the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing either.  But I like how they are this really serious religious stuff and then there's something ultra 21st century.  That just seems really funny.

And the reason I feel bad for Leo isn't necessarily because he doesn't have a girlfriend it's because most look down on him or think he's annoying and he's always on the outside wherever he is which isn't really a fun place to be.

@ Jess:

I haven't read it yet, but I agree that all the Riordan books are the same, and my opinion is, if you don't like it, you don't have to read it.:) So I'm on the request list at the library but not acting like a screaming fangirl or anything. It's not my favorite series in the world, but it's not my least favorite series, either. It's just kind of overrated. And I do have my own personal issues with him, too (In The Kane Chronicles everyone grumbles about "babysitting" Ra because he's senile, which I think is VERY disrespectful toward the elderly and senile, and everyone also makes jokes about Bes, the dwarf god, because of his short height. I have met a little person, and seriously, it's not like they can help their height! Nor are they any different from "normal" people who happen to be shorter than average.) So. Yeah.

I'm with you. I don't think the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing is necessary. Really, I'd like to be able to find a book that's romance free. Seriously, not all kids NEED to date! Hey, I'd be willing to die an old maid!

@ Jess:

TOTALLY AGREE.

With ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING you said.

On the schizophrenia thing too. GAAAAAAAHH. . . .

I swear I am going to yell at Riordan on his blog.

The Heroes of Olympus series is a little odd. Leo is the best new character, though, Annabeth will always be my fave! I like PJ WAY better! I miss all the funny chapter names! Kane Chronicles were just plain out weird! Anyway, looking forward to reading Mark of Athena! Look forward to Percy meeting Jason. Can't wait to read it!

I love his books! My favorite is Sea of monsters, mostly because I like stories told by the first person. So, in other words, I would rather read the Percy Jackson books than the Heroes of Olympus ones. BUT I STILL LOVE ALL HIS BOOKS!!!!!

I have not seen you around the Abbey. Maybe because my allegiance is with Cluny the Scourge.

Look at the location field.  Or did you forget about Cluny, Cluny, Cluny the Scourge?  He was the villain from Redwall, by the way.  The book Redwall, not the entire series.
