Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Books Worth Reading
I am completely...

I am completely stuck for something to read. I'm finishing The Chronicles of Narnia, and I've already got through the Time Quintet. I started Inkheart but it was a little mindless and I'm trying to make Great Expectations feel like pleasure reading and not an English assignment.

I need ideas until The Mark of Athena comes out in October.

I don't care what genre it is; just give me something to read. Please!

Thank you. :)

Every Little Bird That Sings. Unfortunately, I do not know the author. But this is a very, very good book, an incredibly easy read and very heartwarming. Egad, did I just say heartwarming?

It's by Deborah Wiles. I just looked it up. Readers have mentioned it before. I think we had a CRR for it a couple years ago.

Those are some of the best ones I've ever read, in order.

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (any book will do, but The Colour of Magic is the first)

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld (Speaking of which, have any fans of this book seen Westerfeld's canonical fanfiction on his website? It is AMAZING.)

The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman is good, but the last book in the series is really sad.

So yeah, those are my book recommendations. They're all fantasy/sci-fi, though, so not much variety there.

I recommend Anything but Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin. And if you haven't already read The Phantom Tollbooth or The Secret Garden, you should. I also like Aha! Gotcha by Martin Gardner, but that's just me...

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flamel by Michael Scott.

Only too happy to oblige.  :)

Les Miserables.  Always Les Miserables.  It's a real time investment, though.  And you have to put up with Victor Hugo's idiosyncrasies.  It was his life work, literally.  And he likes to ramble.

The Lord of the Rings.  Always.

A Tale of Two Cities.  If you want even more Dickens.  A good book, though.  I defy you not to absolutely fall in love with Sydney Carton.

The Picture of Dorian Gray.  A book everyone should read, just to get a good hard look at evil.  Be  prepared to be disturbed, though.

I started reading The Lord of the Rings several times, but every time I read a page or two, I always get this feeling that I can never write and it's no use to try. In a word (or two), insanely intimidated.

But I'll read Artemis Fowl (I wanted to read that for a while) and try the Dark Materials trilogy after all. May as well. But how is The Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flammel? I know a lot of people on this site like it, but I've never heard of it before coming on here. Another book: 13 Reasons Why. A friend recommended it to me. How's that?

Thirteen Reasons Why is so so so so good!   It's amazing, but kind of dark...

Ooh, you read physics books! (Or else Feynman wrote something else)! I'll have to read that book; it'd be really fun to talk about it with you.

Kingdom Keepers, Kingdom Keepers, Kingdom Keepers.  Oh, and you like the Titanic, right?  I just finished a book about the Titanic that was called The Time-Traveling Fashionista or something along those lines.  I know, it's a really cheesy title, but if you want to know more about the fashion on board the Titanic, it's great.

Keys to the Kingdom by Garth Nix (First one is Mister Monday)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Maximum Ride: the Angel Experiment by James Patterson

I'm hesitant to put Jasper Fforde... some of his books are a little adult...

The Selection by Kiera Cass (I just finished it, and it was awesomeness)

The Silverwing trilogy, Kenneth Oppel

Ratha's Creature by Clare Bell

And a lot of other things that I don't want to list at present.
