Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Lightning Thief
I finished this...

I finished this book yesterday, and it was way better than I expected! The writing wasn't anything special, but it had strong characters and an interesting, fast paced storyline. What were your thoughts on the PJ books?

Thoughts on Percy Jackson?  Probably could be summed up in one word: Meh.

I love that author's work!  I love mythology, so books like that really interest me.  Also, the books are really exciting, with a lot of action.

Eh. Not bad, but a bit overrated.

One word: fabulous!

Many words: Similar to Harry Potter considering the Percy/Annabeth/Grover parallel to Harry/Hermione/Ron, but beside that, I liked the mythology and the humor really kept it going. One thing I cannot write: effective humor. I can't wait to read The Last Olympian to find out how the gods defeat the Titans. I'm a little sad, though, because I'll miss reading it. How is The Heros of Olympus series? I'll read it if you like it enough.

I can write humorously, but my problem is I can't seem to balance humor with good writing.  Like, I can write something really funny, but it just doesn't have that special quality to it.  *coughcoughSonnycoughcough*

I like Percy Jackson, although (like some have mentioned) the writing isn't that great. I like the mythology/modern day thing. It's pretty imaginative and is funny. Overall a good book. :D

I agree with Elizabeth. A pretty good book, and though the writing isn't the greatest, I think Rick Riordan shows more talent with his second series, The Heroes of Olympus, (am I getting that right?) seeing that it was most likely written for an older audience than the earlier series. If you've ever read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, you should continue with that series.

Well, the Heros of Olympus is pretty much a continuation of the PJ series in that it involes some of the same characters. However, Percy isn't really the main charrie anymore, but it's hard to tell, seeing that the series only contains two books so far!

Kinda off topic, but did you know that the first chapter to The Mark of Athena is out, along with the cover?

I read the whole series and I reallly really loved them! As some of you said, they're written in a pretty plain way, but they have a lot of cool surprises. Rick Riordan is among my favorite authors, and he has a really good imagination! So CONTINUE THE SERIES!!!!!!
