For me, that's

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Books that made you cry
For me, that's...

For me, that's barely anything really, because I don't generally cry at books or movies. It just doesn't happen to me for some reason, even if I want to. So instead, I have a list of books that made me almost-cry, or were just really, really, depressing.

Inkspell

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

All Summer In a Day by Ray Bradbury (My teacher read this to us in eighth grade. You have to read it, it's so good- but SO DEPRESSING. I live in Washington State, in a part where we get even more rain than Seattle. So I think I empathized with the character a little too much.)

Sisters Grimm- The Everafter War (I think. Though it may have been the one before that.)

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (I actually did cry at this one. My dad read it to us when I was six.)

and Warriors the New Prophecy, that one where they're on the mountain I forget the name.

I'll remember some more as we go on I'm sure.

So: What books have made you cry? Or almost-cry? No spoilers. Don't directly say who died or anything like that. You can say stuff like the chapter title though. Have you ever cried at something in a book that most people wouldn't consider very sad? You can do spoilers for that one.

The Book Thief and A Vicarage Family are the two most recent ones that come to mind.

I pronounce it el-eye. But I've heard it pronounced the other way too.

A boy in my class spells his name Elie (pronounced eel-eye) but all of the subs when they do attendance think it is pronounced el-ee.  But then everybody yells at him/her so things get strait pretty quickly.

I never cry in books, even though I have read The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and am nearing the end of Moackingjay. Not even then. The only times I neared crying SUPER was when Rue and Finnick die. I could almost NOT keep myslef together then.

The only time in my whole life I have ever cried in a book was the last book of the 39 Clues book. (The book where it all comes to an end.) I cried at the part where the avalanche is coming and Jonah Wizard gets crushed because no one cared enough about him to call out to him. I was in my room so I allowed myself to cry then. My heart was literally hurting. :( :( :( :( :(

I almost cried in Sisters Grimm:Tales From the Hood, which is the one before The Everafter War; though I'm gonna read The Everafter War next week, 'cause that's the next time I'm going to the library. It's funny though, 'cause now Tales from the Hood is my ultimate fave book now.  You gotta love a good, happy-ending, heart-wrenching story.

I love The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but it didn't make me cry 'cause I'd already seen the movie several times beforehand.(I love, love, love, love those movies; especially the score.)

I love the New Prophecy series, and that book was SO horrifying!!!!

On another note, the movie The Lord of the Rings made me cry...those are my all-time favorite movies!!!!!!!!!

I'll make a list of books that made me cry or almost cr or whatever and list it soon....

Turns out there aren't any more books that I could find that I've cried about. Let's just say that I remember crying at at least one more book.

One book that made me cry was Wait till Helen Comes by Mary Dowing Hahn. It made me cry at the end when Helen reunites with her mother. The book made me scared and happy too. Of course it made me scared; it's a kid horror book.

@~Blue Fairy~

Whenever I see that book in the library or at a book fair, it drives me crazy!  My real name is Helen and it totally weirds me out that a Helen is an evil ghost! Grrrrrr.

Hmmmmm...let me think.

The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion both did- I cried at the end of The Return of the King when Frodo went West, at Boromir's death in The Two Towers, and mainly because the whole thing was so sad and beautiful and wonderful. *sniff sniff*

I cried in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire  when Cedric Diggory died (Yes!) and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Fred died.  I loved him so much!

Honestly, a better question to ask me might be what music has made me cry because books really don't have that capacity for me.  But music... you could start with Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound (if it's the music video) and Kingdom Come by the Civil Wars.  But let's not get off topic.

I did say no spoilers- but apparently no one is paying attention. If I could, I would go back and mark this thread for spoilers for Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Lord of the Rings.

But from now on, no spoiling anything that's not from those three! I don't want to accidently have someone give something away that I haven't read.

I almost cried when I read Jane Eyre. Such a good book!

I cried in one of the early Guardians of Ga'hoole, when Eglantine was discovering her parents weren't alive anymore.  That was extremely sad.  I do not cry a lot in books.  I am not very emotional that way.  For some reason I do not feel that sad when my favorite characters die.  I think that's because the good people die only in very engaging books, so you don't really notice until you put the book down, but then you aren't as numb from shock.

If you are an emotional person, then don't read Where the Red Fern Grows!  I never cried, but definitely did on this one.  Also, Old Yeller.  Why dog books, I don't know.:P
