Fairest
by Gail Carson LevineAza, the adopted daughter of innkeepers, was abandoned by her true parents when she was a baby for her ugliness. She wishes nothing else than to be beautiful, for in Ayorthia, a wonderful singing voice and beauty are treasured chracteristics. She has only a wonderful singing voice. But when the Queen finds out that Aza can illuse--make her voice sound like it's somewhere else--she makes her her Lady-In-Waiting, even though Aza is not a lady. Will she ever get her wish?
Great book, even though it's like for grade 6. Fairest is a sort of loose retelling of Snow White.

I loved this book the first time I read it, but a year later (about six months ago now), I could barely get through the first few chapters. Maybe it was because I already knew what was going to happen? I don't really know, but it wasn't a great reread. I like some of her other books better. (Namely, Ella Enchanted and Dave At Night).

This book is sooooo good! Anyone who hasn't read Gail Carson Levine's books HAS to read them. Anything by her is amazing, even if it is written for 6th graders. My favorite is either Ella Enchanted or The Tale of Two Castles, but Fairest is awesome too.
