The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings and you should DEFINITELY read it first. It tells about Bilbo Baggins, who goes with a band of dwarves to rescue the dwarves' treasure, which is being held by a dragon.

The Lord of the Rings tells about Bilbo's nephew Frodo, who inherits his uncle's ring, only to discover that he must destroy it before it destroys him.

These books are SOOO good, my dad read them to my whole family and I loved them.
