For most girls, turning thirteen is pretty exciting. But for Mibs Beaumont, it's beyond that. Thirteen is the birthday when she'll get her savvy or her "special know how". For her family, savvies include perfection, shifting and creating land, and being able to zap people with electricity. When her father gets in an accident from which he may not recover, Mibs is even more desperate to discover a savvy that will blow everyone away and, more importantly, save her Poppa. She embarks on a journey to get to him, along with two brothers, a stuck up snotty teenager named Bobbi, and a fourteen year old with a crush on her, Will. Sound like trouble? It is. Especially when Mibs realizes what her savvy is...and someone finds out about it. This could be the undoing of her family, as savvies are not something that you generally want to share with others...But it could be the start of something new. Friendship. Mibs may be the only one who can save her Poppa, but can she make it to him in time?
