The Hunger Games
by Suzanne CollinsIn this book, the main character Katniss Everdeen, the 16 without a father, takes her 12 year old sister's place in the reaping. The reaping is a ceremony where a boy and a girl from each of the 12 districts in Panem, the country that exists where North America used to, are sent to an arena to fight to the death on TV. Everyone is Panem is required to watch, for this is the capitol's way of showing the districts that they are in charge. Yay! First comment! Anyway, I haven't read the book yet because I'm about the 50th on the hold list at my library (yes, that many people want it. But it's okay, I used to be 63rd). I hear it's a great book and it is currently almost certainly going to win the Battle of the Kid's Books for School Library Journal. I know Linda Sue Park's nephew and niece, because her nephew goes to my school. When I finallly get the book I know I will be rushing over to the library and reading until 1 in the morning (yes, I know this from experience. Lots of incidents like this have happened.) Comment over.
