Kate, Michael, and Emma are three kids living in an orphange. When a woman coming is intrested in adopting them and the kids say that her swan hat is really a snake painted white, they are sent away to live with Dr. Pym. A man who runs an 'orphange' with only three kids, a man who may or may not be a wizard. While exploring Dr. Pym's mansion Kate's discovery of a strange, emerald green book which has mysterious and dangerous powers will change all three childrens lives forever.

I loved this book for being so captivating, magical, and funny. See also The Fire Chronicle, and The Black Reckoning. John Stephens is a great writer. This is a must read.
