The Hobbit

by J.R.R. Tolkien

I really loved this book. I read my dad's super-old copy first (he's a huge fan of Tolkien too), and for my seventh birthday, he bought me a bigger, less worn-out version with an awesome picture of Smaug on the front. I like it so much because the plot plays along fantastically. No offense to Harry Potter fans, but in books like that, it just seems like "oh, look here's an angry purple goblin and then here's some other strange misshapen creature with amazing magical abilities that our super awesome hero has to conquer." It's just constant action and battles. There's no parts that are used to explain the history of the place that they're in or to give some detail about who they're fighting at the moment. But I suppose most kids like that.

I'm rambling now, so imma stop.

The book was great, and they did an okay job of sticking to key elements of the plot. I mean, sometimes it's like they want more action to fill up the excess hour, but I don't really care, the scenery and clothes are so beautiful!

This is one of the best books written.  The characters all care about each other, and besides, who doesn't like a treasure hunt with a dragon?  If you saw the movies, you can't say that that's the same thing as reading the book, because the book is so much better!
